Olive oil glazes onions & garlic diced
(tears in the chopping)
sizzling in the cast iron pan
(tears for the fragrance)
waiting for dinner
he visits the garden
(tears of the loss)
Yellow powder on his fingers
like silentsmelling curry
Flightless
he pressed her wings too hard
and she flutters
Helpless
I love "he pressed her wings too hard

It creates such true not only pictures, but memories in my mind. But is it a metaphor describing his relationship with whomever is making dinner?(his wife maybe?)
good insight...the male female/ he she is a key to how I think this poem works ...actually these were two separate poems that I put together when I saw how the curry was silent and yellow and yet connected in a culinary sense and then how tears come from different sources. There is an interesting film website Doorpost Film Project that has a film with a similar theme...check it out.
ReplyDeleteI really like the form of this poem- i hope you can teach us about setting up peoms like this where the format works well with the poem, i've never been able to do it like this!
